Kindergarten in NOVA

Going to Kindergarten is kind of a big deal. It’s a huge milestone for kids and such an adjustment for parents. I was thrilled when Annie reached out to me to schedule a Back to School mini session to document her little cutie as he begins…

Let me just add…He assumed this pose all by himself…A real natural don’t you think?

I know baking with your kids is supposed to be this miraculous bonding experience where you channel all of your ancestors and all of the kitchen gods. You’ve seen all the Instagram posts where the work space is immaculate, the kids are dressed up and clean and everyone is laughing and having a grand time. There are Pinterest worthy treats at the end of course and the kids are just so grateful for the time spent with you right?

I wish you could see my eyes rolling right now. I would say 9 out of 10 times I have agreed to bake with my kids, it’s not quite like the scenario I have described. Projects take about 5 times as long as you planned, there’s a good chance you do not have all the ingredients on hand and the mess that inevitably takes an hour to clean up, well that’s the best part right? Despite all of that, you still do it.

You do it because they are so excited to create something new. You do it to keep them busy and off of the electronics. You do it because their little hands are just so darn cute. You do it because you realize how fast the time is going and soon they won’t be living under your roof. You do it because who really cares about flour all over the floor…it’s really not the big of a deal.

You do it for the tradition, the memories and of course the yummy treat at the end…Regardless of how perfect or imperfect it looks.

My independent and creative girl loves to bake and I will continue to say yes for as long as she wants me to.

It’s time…Time to gather up all of the dorm room stuff that’s been piling up since the end of senior year and finally move in! This incredible 2020 grad is finally headed to her top choice college. Sure things will look different for the college freshman this year, but I am so happy she is getting to be on campus.

Mother Nature decided to really show up during my senior sessions that day. We had minutes between downpours. You may even notice some rain drops, but still we managed to get some great images and that rainbow made it all worth it.

This girl right here is beautiful inside and out. She is confident, strong and knows what she wants out of life…even at 18 years old! She’s all about the positive and such an inspiration to those around her.

The Class of 2020 has faced many disappointments. My heart truly went out to the parents and students of this class. Cheers Kristin to you and your future..It’s a bright one, no doubt about it.

Haymarket Senior Class of 2020

Because of Covid and the way things have played out for this year’s seniors, I had a lot of rescheduling going on. As soon as Virginia was given the go for non essential businesses to open, I was able to catch up on sessions and boy did it feel good. These three seniors from Haymarket, VA wanted to incorporate their home town into their images so we headed to the historic downtown area. This was the place where they have spent so much of their time while in Northern VA…Walking their dogs, going to school, working their first jobs and just grabbing a cupcake on a Sunday afternoon. As Mother Nature would have it, about 10 minutes in, the sky opened up and rain started to fall. We ran into our cars and waited for it to pass. Having the cloudy sky replace the beautiful sun was discouraging but what came next was so much better.

We rounded the corner to find the most perfectly placed rainbow. I’m pretty sure they all thought I was nuts loosing my mind over what had turned into an epic sky right above them.

At that moment I though to myself,
no one deserved a rainbow
more than the Class of 2020!

In what has been such an uncertain time for our seniors, this moment was one of hope. Cars honked and shouts came as we documented their milestone and we were lucky enough to get individual images before the rain began again. We left content and smiling. It really is a joy for me to be a part of these defining moments.

PVI High School will close it’s doors after 35 years to move to it’s new home in Chantilly, VA. Being that Melea, her brother and her mother all attended high school here, it was the perfect location for her 2020 senior photography session.

What a year it has been for the Class of 2020. Yes, you have missed out on traditions and celebrations because of Covid-19, but you certainly aren’t forgotten. I really wanted Melea to have a great time at our session and to be left with some good memories of her time at PVI.

Lorton VA Senior Session

I think I may have found my new favorite location for my seniors! The Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA is full of color, texture and really had some beautiful light the day we were there. I have known this gorgeous creature for a few years now and what an honor it was to document her senior year…
